Creating a Culture of Global Citizenship

Galpin, Timothy J. (2013) Creating a Culture of Global Citizenship. Journal of Corporate Citizenship (49). pp. 34-47.

Abstract

Many managers ignore organisational culture because it appears so difficult to manage. Instead, they focus on the more tangible aspects of the organisation such as operations, finance and information technology. However, achieving and sustaining a firm's global citizenship efforts requires that global citizenship be embedded throughout the organisation's culture. To that end, an evidence-based model is presented providing practising managers with a pragmatic approach to help them create a culture of global citizenship. The model is applicable to various global citizenship efforts, and it can be applied regardless of the industry or the size of the companies undertaking global citizenship initiatives. Beyond practitioners, the model enables researchers to frame their inquiry into global citizenship from a multi-level perspective and in relation to other disciplines.
